Gemadro Coffee
Gemadro Coffee is among the finest Coffees in the world. It is produced in the conserved natural environment to manifest its natural inherent cup quality. This shade grown arabicais refined and of unique flavor; balancing bitterness with elegant body and fruity nuances that hint at jasmine and citrus, is primed for the gourmet market.
Year of Establishment: 1999, First Harvest 2002.
Location: Gemadro Coffee Plantation is located in the lush highlands of South Western Ethiopia, widely accepted as being the source of Coffee Arabica. The rolling hills and valleys are covered with indigenous forests and areoverflowing with crystal clear streams, springs and rivers.
Plantation Size: The Estatecovers a total of 2217 hectares of which 1010 hectares is under coffee plantation. In an effort to maintain the local ecology and biodiversity the Plantation has left 1000 hectares under forest while the remaining 285 hectares has been set aside for infrastructure.
Climate and Soil
Rainfall :The area is blessed with 1900 mm of annual rainfall distributed over nine to ten months. This eliminates the riskof moisture stress and the land layout insures sufficient drainage.
Temperature : ranging from 14.50C (minimum) to 280C (maximum) mean.The area is frost free throughout the year.
Altitude and Soil : The Plantation is located in a high altitude area ranging from 1700m to 2000m. The high altitude in conjunction with the deep red, well drained and fertile soil, insures premium high quality coffee and productivity.
Processing : The Plantation exclusively employs hand picking of ripened cherries insuring that only the finest beans make it to the customer. It is also equipped with a modern processing facility located on site insuring that the fresh cherries are processed to the highest standards and in an environmentally friendly condition. The Company also plans to gradually increase the percentage of washed coffee from the current 70% of annual output. Then milling, further cleaning, sorting and grading takes place in Addis Ababa. Besides the washed coffee, due emphasis was given for the production of natural coffee where the processing facility is computerized to sort out coffee bean defects by color and weight.
Environmental Consciousness
Crystal Clear Water: in addition to soil conservation the rivers and streams are kept pollution free.
Recycle and Reuse: the effluents from the washing stations are recycled while the pulp and husks are used as compost and fuel for artificial driers respectively.
Indigenous forests: the forests are kept intact covering the hills and gorges. The coffee trees are also grown under indigenous trees such as Wanza.Albizzia, Acacia and Ficus. This helps to maintain the bio-diversity and to prevent land degradation.
Annual Production: 1,100 – 1,200 tons of clean coffee.
Diversification of Gemadro Coffee Plantation
Spices
Gemadro has a very conducive environment for spice development as a result of which it has started producing black pepper and more types will be included soon.
Beekeeping
The Gemadro Coffee Plantation produces organic honey from the natural forest that surrounds the coffee plantation. The Company expects to expand its capacity to 500 bee hives and production capacity of up to 20,000 kilograms of honey in the coming years.

Duyina Coffee
Duyina Coffee Farm, about 30 km from Gemadro was established in 2008. Gemadro which is of high yield premium quality coffee has encouraged the establishment of the Duyina Coffee Farm. Duyina is the name of the village of the plantation site from where the name Duyina Coffee was adopted. The Duyina coffee farm climate and soil is similar to that of Gemadro. This part of Ethiopia is considered to be the home of Coffee arabica. Here one finds the optimum soil and climatic condition which nature seems to have it designed for coffee production.

Altitude: 1650-1950 meters above sea level
Land Use:a total of 1574 ha. Of which 1000 hectares is under coffee plantation, 400 ha. Which are hills and gorges remain covered with indigenous forest trees and shrubs..
Annual Production per annum : 105 tons.

Ayehu Coffee Farm
The third coffee farm, Ayehu, is located in Western Gojam, Amhara Region about 500 kms from Addis Ababa. So far, 200 hectares is currently under cultivation with an increase to 500 hectares planned in a few years. The coffee, which exclusively arabica, is considered among the best Ethiopian high land coffee like Sidamo and Yirgacheffe, which are worldwide known for their unique aroma, flavor and good cup quality.

Temperature: 13 – 290C
Annual Production per annum : 92 tons

Beha Coffee
The fourth coffee farm is located in southern Ethiopia region. So far, 288 hectares is currently under cultivation. The coffee, which is exclusively arabica, is considered among the best Ethiopian high land coffees like Gemadro.
Altitude: 1900-2000 meters above sea level
Annual Rainfall: 1800 mm average rainfall distributed over eight months in the year
Temperature: 14 – 280C
Soil: deep, red, fertile
Annual Production per annum : 92 tons
